New members will need to demonstrate proficiency on their instrument, and must be able to read music and music dynamics with skill and accuracy.
The October concerts will feature “An All-American Celebration” with selections from Howard Hanson’s Symphony #2; George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” with guest pianist Joseph Williams, who is Music Director, pianist, and accompanist for the St. Barnabas Anglican Church in Jacksonville; and Aaron Copland’s “Variations on a Shaker Hymn”. Included on the program will be music of Richard Rodgers, Leonard Bernstein, and John Williams, with a repeat performance of the Orchestra’s 50th Anniversary commissioned work: “Aurelia” by Jacksonville composer Bob Moore.
Admission prices will be $15 for Friday evening concerts at the Lightner Museum, and $10 for the encore matinee performances at Christ Episcopal Church.
The orchestra appreciates the in-kind support provided by Murray Middle School for its rehearsal space; and the Lightner Museum for its spectacular performance venue. The orchestra also depends on gifts from donors, sponsors, and on paid advertisements in concert programs.
