L. to R. Allen Scarlett, Anthony Akapnitis, Mykenzie Niewald, Joey Hefferon, Michael Augustine, Kevin Fulford & center front: Cameron Black
The St. Augustine Orchestra has selected seven local students, who are accomplished musicians, to join the orchestra for it’s 51st successive season of popular concerts. Allen Scarlett, from Ponte Vedra High School plays percussion. And from Pedro Menendez High School the following musicians were chosen: Anthony Akapnitis, percussion; Mykenzie Niewald, violin; Joey Hefferon, percussion; Michael Augustine, trombone; Kevin Fulford, trumpet. Violinist Cameron Black was chosen from Landrum Middle School. All these newcomers expressed great pleasure at becoming members of the St. Augustine Orchestra.
All members of the orchestra are volunteers, attending weekly rehearsals at Murray Middle School which provides space for orchestra rehearsals as an in-kind donation to the orchestra. Members represent all ages and vocations, sharing a common love of orchestral music. Music Director/Conductor William McNeiland continues to look for musicians who play viola, string bass, violin, flute, or French horn. Persons who wish to join the orchestra must demonstrate proficiency on their instrument, and be able to read music and music dynamics with skill and accuracy. Those interested in joining the orchestra should contact Victoria Scarlett at 904-655-7944, or by e-mail at: [email protected].
The orchestra’s next concerts are scheduled for Friday, December 14, 2012 at 8:00 pm at the Lightner Museum, St. Augustine; and Sunday, December 16, 2012 at 3:00 pm at Christ Episcopal Church 400 San Juan Drive, Ponte Vedra Beach. For more information, log on to www.staugustineorchestra.org .
