When American music is thought of, what usually comes to mind is jazz, blues, rock ‘n roll and country. But what is less known is the significant number of composers who have built a distinct American sound to classical music in this country.
To kick off the 2017-2018 season on October 13th, we will focus on seven American composers – some nearly household names and others lesser so but all of whom have created interesting works and led interesting lives.
Imagine – among the composers we’ll feature is one who whose home is on the National Historic Register. He was also in the Pentagon in Military Intelligence! Another won a Best Original Score Academy Award. Another has had his songs become American Standards. And one wrote the most famous baseball poem ever written!
We enjoy expanding our repertoire and hope you do too!
